| Tiivistelmä: | In the face of increasing competition in core businesses, Abbey National Building Society decided to brave the unknown and become a public limited company (plc). A number of issues involved in changing status from a mutual status to a plc are examined. The actual co-ordination of the privatization was handled in-house, thus saving money as well as offering an effective control system for the operation. The arguments for the conversion are outlined, as are the arrangements for the ballot and then the flotation, and the lessons to be learned from the whole operation. |
