Tiivistelmä:Strategic alliances bring together partners that may be horizontally- or vertically-related to each other, but need not be related to each other at all. The ventures that they create may be horizontally- or vertically-related to either or both sponsoring firms, or may constitute an unrelated diversification for sponsoring firms. Results suggest that ventures are more successful where partners are related /in products, markets, and/or technologies/ to their ventures or horizontally-related to them than when they are vertically-related or unrelated to their ventures. Ventures last longer between partners of similar cultures, asset sizes and venturing experience levels.
