| Tiivistelmä: | In this paper the authors argue that the data released by firms through corporate environmental reports are of very limited value, especially for environmental benchmarking performance purposes between different companies. They also argue that the data published by governments through pollutant release and transfer registers (PRTRs) are of much stronger value in comparative analyses; all though they acknowledge that PRTRs are limited in their scope and that there are differences between the PRTRs standards that are place in different countries. The authors conclude that even though PRTRs are not perfect they still provide the best available data for benchmarking corporate environmental performance. |
