| Tiivistelmä: | This paper argues that, through the improved and faster provision of information, the New Economy is likely to have profound consequences for the financial services industry. Several tendencies are noteworthy. First, the traditional role of commercial banks as exclusive sources of information on firms is likely to diminish. At the same time, however, banks will remain important in areas in which information is not easily tradeable (original in German). |
