Tiivistelmä:The paper explains the role of decoupling points as interfaces between customer orders and demand forecasts within inter-organizational supply chains, summarizes well-known and less-known papers on order penetration, and differentiates some terms only unclearly used in the literature. The newly introduced curve "customer order profile" is helpful for identifying and representing "mixtures" of decoupling points which are only seldom referred to in the literature. By means of the customer order profile, furthermore the relationship between decoupling points and planning processes of different planning levels can be stressed. In doing so, some advice for a better use of demand information within operational planning can be given. Finally, the customer order profile is used to discuss the impact different decoupling points and mixtures of decoupling points have on some mid- and short-term operational planning tasks which are usually supported by Advanced Planning Systems (original in German).
