| Tiivistelmä: | This article examines the development of decision-making structures and processes in the context of lending to SMEs by focusing on the practices and policies of commercial banks in Poland. First, a historical view of re-organization of the commercial banking sector in Poland is provided. Then the policies and strategies of the banks are empirically examined. It is found that there are noticeable patterns of change in how the banks regard the SME sector and especially the medium-sized sector. Commercial banking sector is responding to the specific circumstances of transition economy and this is showing in the changes in policies and strategies. |
