Tiivistelmä:This article explores the activity of Irish trade unions in representing claimants at Equality Officer investigations under the Employment Equality Act, 1977. The results indicate that even though some union officials actively supported claims, overall the trade unions have not used the Act strategically. Proof of trade unions supporting discriminatory agreements against members' claims of discrimination was found which suggests the ongoing existence of patriarchal trade union tradition in Ireland.
