Tiivistelmä:An Internet survey of 765 parents (here as: prs.) investigated 1. to what extent prs. wanted to be informed by ratings (as: rtgs.) of harmful videogames for their children (from 4 to 18 years), 2. which content descriptors (as: c-descs.) interested them, 3. which prs. were most interested, and 4. how parental mediation (as: p-med.) of the child's gaming related to their interest in rtgs. and c-descs. The majority of prs. thought the rtgs. to be very necessary. Warnings of realistic 'gore and gross' were considered most important, followed by warnings as to alcohol/drugs, fantasy violence, bad language and, finally, nudity. A LISREL model showed that the rtgs. and most c-descs. were used as tools for active and restrictive p-med., in relation to prs.' ideas on negative game effects (as: gm-effs). The mediation strategy of social co-play was strongly associated with the prs.' own gaming and their views on positive gm-effs.
