| Tiivistelmä: | In 1994 the US and Chile officially began negotiations aimed at Chile's accession to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The US administration is also considering how to extend free trade to the whole of Americas. The answer, according to administration officials, may be to bring in existing Latin American free trade areas. By negotiating with several nations at once the US seeks to encourage the necessary market reforms on would-be entrants to NAFTA. |
