| Tiivistelmä: | Technical changes in manufacturing companies as consequences of the recession in the late seventies and eighties are described and analyzed. Interviews with managers in a wide range of companies are reported. Case examples are reviewed. Fitting the technology into a business strategy, devising a manufacturing strategy and particularly producing an implementation plan to deliver the new technology were among the most difficult tasks to manage. Key elements of a successful implementation methodology are discussed. The process of revolutionary change is characterized. The reactions of management to the innovations and the accompanying changes are examined. |
