| Tiivistelmä: | This paper examines the effects of language on the transfer of knowledge within multinational companies. For the analysis, language is separated from cultural context. A basic communication model is used to demonstrate how language affects all stages of the international knowledge transfer process. Various influences -cost, transfer medium, teams, networks, trust, staff movements and motivation- on international knowledge transfer are examined in order to show how language affects their operation. The concept of language as a "reconfiguration agent" is developed to explain the extensive, pervasive, on-going and system-altering characteristics of it. |
