| Tiivistelmä: | The authors use a panel data set of 46 countries over the 1970-1989 period to investigate the relationship between fiscal decentralization and economic growth. The authors find a negative relationship between fiscal decentralization and growth in developing countries. Several explanations are offered for these findings. The objectives of this study are to supply an analytical framework and empirical methodology, and to use the methodology to test for the presence and size of efficiency gains from fiscal decentralization. |
