Tiivistelmä:This article begins with a brief theoretical discussion of the concept of globalization. The greater part of the article treats the globalization thesis empirically, and concludes that globalization theories have only limited relevance for understanding current developments in central and Eastern Europe. This is primarily because of Western capital's tentative approach to the region, and preference for low commitment strategies - although the tentativeness varies between countries.
