| Tiivistelmä: | A study is presented about 16 large diversified British companies. Three successful styles of managing strategy are identified. Strategic planning, financial control and strategic control are compared. Each style is characterized by a particular way of organizing the relationships between headquarters and the business units. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. The three styles are described in detail. Their growth potential and profitability are compared. Ways to divide responsibility between corporate executives and business unit managers are outlined. The importance to choose the combination that best fits businesses in their portfolios is emphasized. |
