| Tiivistelmä: | An experiment is outlined which allowed to explore differences between samples located by random and quota methods. The population sampled was unemployed labour force in two communities. Half the interviews were secured by random sampling and half by quota sampling. Quota interviewers were selective about where they worked. Nine hypotheses based on existing literature are stated assuming that quota samples are biased towards the accessible, household with children, and against small households, employed people, low status individuals, workers, extremes of income, the less educated; random samples are more biased against men than quota samples. Recommendations are made about methodological research and the conduct of fieldwork in social surveys. |
