| Tiivistelmä: | The proliferation of regional preferential trading agreements worldwide has persuaded many African policy makers that in the face of poor economic performance, marginalisation globally may be avoided if regional integration is entertained. This paper reviews the major forms of integration in the region. The rationale behind the establishment of a free trade area within the South African Development Community is examined in the light of the economic characteristics of the countries comprising the community. |
