| Tiivistelmä: | In this review of consumer spending the impact of the recent Budget on the prospects for consumer spending over the next two years is considered. It is judged that the adverse effect of higher taxes on the consumer sector will be partly offset by lower interest rates. However, the outlook is critically poised between recovery and a period further very low growth. Growth in consumer spending in 1994 will rely upon a rundown in savings as the delayed tax increases bite on incomes. |
