Tiivistelmä:The concept and causes of conflicts within companies are discussed. Psychical, social and economic costs and accompanying frustration as bases of conflicts are interpreted. The main characteristics of social conflicts are described. The relationships between conflict and competition are examined. A typology of conflicts is presented. A process oriented view on conflicts is dealt with at length. Potential causes of conflicts in tasks, organization, communication and certain personnel characteristics are identified in a systematic way. The notion of conflict transformation is defined and exemplified. Several forms of conflict management are mentioned and the alternative forms are compared.
