Tiivistelmä:A survey commissioned by a textile company revealed that more than a third of its customers had noticed the deterioration of the level of service over the past two years. The specific problems cited by the customers included slower deliveries, shipping delays, expediting problems, and a lack of responsibility. By analysing the reasons it turned out that the company only focused on the total dollar amount of its finished inventory. Consequently the slow increase in sludge and the resulting decline in customer service escaped its attention. To avoid this senior management must be aware of changes and must know how to react to those changes.
