| Tiivistelmä: | Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP II) are computerized systems which replace traditional methods of manufacturing with formal planning and control procedures. The benefits from these systems are reviewed. However, there have been numerous failures in implementing those systems. As a result, many companies have not received the full benefits from MRP/MRP II. Based on a survey of 272 companies that have or are in the process of implementing MRP/MRP II the determinants of a successful implementation are explained. The case of one successful company is described and analyzed in detail. The success was largely determined by the degree of management commitment and by the implementation process used. |
