Tiivistelmä:Fathers in Britain usually work longer hours than non-fathers. This commonly reported statistic is used as supporting evidence for the argument that the role of fathers within families remains primarily concerned with financial provisioning. The significance of fatherhood in relation to hours of paid work disappears when other factors are taken into account. This is shown through regression model. The period of fatherhood is highlighted as a period of longer working hours but the assumption of a causal relationship is challenged.
