Tiivistelmä:The traditional image of a good leader is someone who is resolute and decisive. Research evidence, however, indicates that the so-called "macho manager" approach to decision making is potentially counterproductive because it not only leads to hasty choices but prevents withdrawal when decisions turn out badly. The escalation of problem may occur due to perceptual bias, feelings of disappointment and insecurity. Some suggestions for overcoming the problem are made including organizational monitoring and control, maintaining independent judgement, skilful use of language, separating the initial decision makers from those responsible for implementation and fast intervention.
