| Tiivistelmä: | In 1998, the metallurgical industry produced 118.63 million tons of pig iron, 114.35 million tons of steel, 105.08 million tons of rolled steel, respectively increased by 6.72, 6.87, 9.8 percent than those of last year. Profits and taxes amounted to 18.3 billion yuan, among which the profits amounted to 2 billion yuan. The profit level remained basically the same as that of last year. However, contradictions on steel market are protruding. The total output of production is in surplus and prices of steel products have fallen dramatically. These have imposed serious impacts on the conomic benefits of the industry. From this year, 20 million tons of production capacity of blast furnace under 50 cubic meters will be obsoleted, as well as 7.2 million tons of production capacity of small furnaces under 10 tons and so on. |
