Tiivistelmä:Much organizational theory and research is characterized by an uncritical acceptance of the efficacy of open communication. Their key assumptions that underlie the idea that opening up lines of communication is a panacea for organizational ills are examined. The development of the ideology of openness in organizational communication is traced from the origins in the human relations movement, its use in contemporary organizational research is described, and an alternative, contingency model of communication in organizations is proposed.
