| Tiivistelmä: | Better production methods and technology are enabling USA managers to achieve dramatic gains in manufacturing performance. However, manufacturing success cannot be assured on the production floor alone. It must start in the product design lab. For manufacturing to meet its goals, new products must be designed so that they could be manufactured efficiently. It is analyzed how design affects manufacturing costs and which obstacles should be overcome by good product design. Doing this, the following factors are very important: concurrent product and process development; early management involvement, having design rules; finally, making design reviews. |
