| Tiivistelmä: | According to Chandler's classic study, the development of large USA industrial enterprises can be broken down into four phases, with a fundamental change in organisation following each change in strategy. Industrial enterprises in the USA and Europe are again faced with new developments that are forcing them to reexamine their strategies and structure and the rapid pace of technological change is reflected in growing uncertainty in marketing and production departments, which is aggravated by the intensification of international global competition. This article focuses on the development of corporate strategies designed to cope with the new technologies, and the search for structures to replace today's oversized, highly centralized divisional forms. |
