| Tiivistelmä: | Data encryption will be reconsidered by corporate security managers. Lower encoding costs and fear of viruses lead to revised standards of encryption. It is shown how Data Encryption Standard encodes bank transactions at automatic teller machines using a multistep process. The origins of an encryption standard as a case story are described. Encryption costs are high, typically 1500 USD per node but companies still look for their data protection. A new encryption program was started by the National Security Agency after it has stopped Data Encryption Standard, but these alternatives are not widely adopted in the USA. Networked software protection measures are discussed. |
