| Tiivistelmä: | The factors that can explain the gains resulting from vertical mergers are investigated. The findings suggest that acquiring firms gains the most when they come from concentrated markets and target firms come from fragmented markets. The findings also suggest that , on the average, the firms studied increased their market power as a result of mergers. The findings about the rival firms suggest that in a moderately concentrated industry, a vertical merger by one firm may not pose a threat to the other firms. These findings have public policy implications. |
