| Tiivistelmä: | This article deals with the potential of industrial ecology (hereafter as: ind-ecol.) to inform the redesign of an existing industry (as: ind-y.), what is concerned with the production, sales, and support of cars. Together are brought the concepts embedded in ind-ecol. with issues of economic scale, product design or technology etc. and the way in which new combinations of these features can result in an alternative structure for the automotive ind-y. with the potential of enhancing sustainability performance. In contradistinction to the prevailing ind-y., the concept of micro factory retailing (MFR) is advanced as an alternative framework for the ind-y. that would result in significantly different performance in terms of ind-ecol. |
