| Tiivistelmä: | The article discusses issues concerning the role of individual inventors in large research and development (hereafter as R&D) organizations. This paper uses three R&D organizations in two Swedish technology-based companies as a case study to find out the importance of individuals. The findings reveal that there is a small group of extra innovative inventors in each organization. The results highlight the importance of these individuals because they work more productive than their co-workers, e.g. measured in the numbers of patent applications. Also generalized useful suggestions are provided how managers can maintain and leverage this immaterial competitive advantage. |
