Tiivistelmä:There is evidence of a complex system of multidirectional links btw. fertility (hereafter as: frlty.), productivity (here as: prdty.) and inequality (as: ineqlty). This study contributes through a multi-country analysis of the three variables as a simultaneous system in a VECM framework based on an annual time series data for Australia, Japan, Sweden, the U.K. and the United States (USA). According to the results highlighted are some differences btw. countries in the relationships btw. the variables. For Australia and the U.K., the VECM analysis uncovers a long run relationship btw. frlty. and prdty. to which both frlty. and prdty. adjust. As to the USA, the results suggest that raising prdty. in the long run will be associated with a decrease in both ineqlty. and frlty. For Japan and Sweden, no significant long run relationships were found.
