Tiivistelmä:The article examines the factors that influence children's participation in education after the primary school. The empirical data focused in particular on the German "Gymnasium" schools through which students continue to academic studies. Using statistical methods, the author studied, what factors influence students' decisions to entering this type of schools and the reasons behind dropping-out of the education. According to the results the role of some social background factors will strength with time, while the others seem to lose their influence.
