| Tiivistelmä: | Greece's high levels of international debt and the rigours of its full integration into the European Union (EU) have exposed it to more than its fair share of external pressures. The latest provoked a drachma crisis and sprang from an EU Maastricht Treaty regulation designed to bring poor and rich member countries into convergence. As it turned out the immediate crisis was overcome, but debt remained an unresolved problem that is as much political as economic. |
