Tiivistelmä: | This article deals with an online collaborative project btw. two international business communication (hereafter as: comm.) classes at United States (U.S.) and German universities. The project focused on comparing a number of online comm. channels (e-mail, chat, discussion board), evaluating each channel's effectiveness for virtual teamwork, and reflecting on the various aspects in the learning process. Chatting was preferred by students as a channel for informal introductions at the project start. E-mailing and discussion boards were found better suited for in-depth comm. Interestingly, the U.S. students ranked e-mail most effective for professional comm., whereas the German ones preferred discussion boards. In general, students responded very positively and found the project valuable in improving their intercultural and online comm. skills. |
