| Tiivistelmä: | Attitudes toward the impending privatization of the electricity supply and water industries in the UK were assessed by a questionnaire distributed to 225 visitors to SW England holiday beaches. This was a part of a broader survey of perceptions of pollution by coasts. As result, there were differences in evaluations in relation to industries' abilities to perform and in expectations on the pollutant levels as well as in expectations in relation to improvements as to the environment and pollution. It is argued that individuals based their attitudes on previous experience and on assumptions about the effects of market forces on behaviour that differed from those implicit in the policy of privatization. |
