| Tiivistelmä: | It is often the case that texts on dynamic programming, while giving excellent descriptions of the structure of dynamic optimization problems, fail to give very satisfactory guidance as to how theoretical models may be operational. A particular simple application example is given in order to illustrate the stages involved in building a practical solution model to a deterministic dynamic programme. The example refers to an aspect of the finance of local governments. The hope is that the example will encourage more applications of the technique. One of the virtues of the dynamic programming approach is the freedom it allows concerning functional forms. |
