| Tiivistelmä: | The current pattern of household electricity use in urban Java, Indonesia is described. The market for and characteristics of appliances currently sold in the country are analyzed. The impact of two scenarios of penetration of higher efficiency on future electricity demand is estimated. The barriers to improvement of appliance efficiency are discussed. Various policy approaches are described that the government could take in order to accelerate the adoption of more efficient appliances. Although the focus of the attention is on Indonesia, the conclusions would apply to other developing countries as well. |
