| Tiivistelmä: | The need for true cost estimations stems from the fact that because of market imperfections, prices are poor approximations of real costs and should not be used in economic evaluation and investment planning. One of the most interesting cases is the calculation of the real cost of electricity, because of the complexity of its generation and distribution process. A simple but systematic marginal cost approach for the estimation of the cost of electricity delivered to rural regions is described. The methodology pays particular attention to the distance of the final consumer from the grid and the seasonability of rural demand. |
