| Tiivistelmä: | The "aid-the-poor" task is still very arduous in China. By the end of the Seventh Five-Year plan, China still had an impoverished population of 85 million. But during the Eighth Five-Year plan period, there was an impoverished population of 20 million which shacked off poverty.Last year alone, 5 million people in 5 poverty-stricken mountain areas across the country shacked off poverty. According to the incomplete statistics in 1994, there were 17 anti-poverty institutions in China. In recent 10 years, the State Science and Technology Commission has already appropriated a fund of 56.50 million yuan for poverty relief . The State Education Commission and the Ministry of Finance have also jointly organized and implemented "the National Project of Universal Compulsory Education in Poverty- Stricken Areas". |
