| Tiivistelmä: | Brazil has invested great effort and capital to implement a major programme which would produce an internal substitute /ethanol/ for a fraction of the cost of imported oil consumed as gasoline. The attention of the paper is focused on the economic benefits of the allocation of resources either to agricultural exports or to energy production. The Theory of Games is used to represent the two producers competing for the same resources. It is found that necessary and sufficient conditions can be established in order to have both producers either at high output levels or at low output levels. An important ingredient for policy analysis is the knowledge of price elasticities of world demand for agricultural products. |
