| Tiivistelmä: | The birth and development of assembly line research are analyzed. The main question is that whether the research on this field was driven by an industry /government/ push or by an academic pull. The historical growth and decay patterns /life cycles/ of assembly line research and publications are examined. Research directions and their causes are outlined, current topics and likely future trends are assessed. It appears that the genesis of assembly line research stemmed primarily from an industrial push, and approximataly eight years were required before academia became the main research driver. |
