| Tiivistelmä: | The record number of insolvent savings and loan associations and savings banks has resulted in a drastic consolidation of the thrift industry. This study examines the potential wealth transfer effects - in the form of wealth transfers from the federal insurance funds to the shareholders of acquiring firms - of federally assisted mergers where publicly traded firms acquired failed thrifts. This research distinguishes the importance of different sales mechanisms and changes in regulatory influences from other factors contributing to the wealth transfer. |
