| Tiivistelmä: | The ministers and the presidents of the central banks of the European Community decided in the early hours on the 2nd August, 1993, that the bandwidths of the currencies that belong still to the European Monetary System's exchange mechanism will be expanded to +/- 15 p.c. After the most recent modification of the bandwidths the schedule of the realization of the European Monetary Union projected in the Maastricht Treaty seems to be obsolete. The author argues, that in spite of the negative tendencies there are still chances for the Monetary Union, and proposes policies, by which it can be realized. |
