| Tiivistelmä: | German banks look likely to earn considerable profits this year on what is becoming a mini-boom in the mortgage lending business. None of the Big Five "universals" last year added less than three-quarters to the 1992 profits they earned in trading for their own account. The lowest, at a 76% increase, was Deutsche, while Bayern Hypo added 250%. More significant for the longer term organization of German banking, Deutsche and Dresdner's earnings from commissions on securities trading soared to around half the amount they earned from traditional lending business. |
