| Tiivistelmä: | In October 1993 the Government issued its Green Paper on Taxis and Private Hire vehicles. Taxis and hire cars have much from which all transport policy should learn. Transport statistics show them as the outstanding success story among public transport modes of the 1980s, a record most probably extending much further back. The salient figures are presented in Table 1. Taxis and hire cars give passengers the experience of motoring with less effort. The rise of taxis and hire cars and the decline of the rest of public transport predates the 1980s. |
