Tiivistelmä:Speculation regarding the link between market share and profitability has resulted in a large body of research to investigate a possible relationship between the two. This study suggests that the relationship between market share and profitability is too weak to justify a commitment to achieve market share dominance. Since the instances of concurrent market share and profitability leadership occur in only a few industries, it is highly likely that a causal relationship is possible only under a severely limited set of circumstances.
