| Tiivistelmä: | The purpose of this paper is to provide new empirical evidence on the economic properties of EU-wide monetary aggregates focusing on one aspect so far unexplored: the role of cross-border holdings (CBHs). The analysis of money demand functions defined for a group of EU countries as a whole has recently attracted widespread attention. The interest in this approach and the significance of the encouraging results stem from two arguments. CBHs considered in this paper consist of the monetary assets of the private non-financial sector held with financial intermediaries located in countries other than those in which the holders are resident. |
