| Tiivistelmä: | From the very outset of the transition process in eastern central Europe and the successor states to the Soviet Union , foreign direct investment has been seen as a key factor in the restructuring process. Direct investment - along with other forms of private capital import - is expected to make an important contribution to the external financing of macroeconomic adjustment. It can serve as a catalyst for economic change, as direct investment avoids foreign debt and underlines international confidence in the sustainability of the reform process. |
