Tiivistelmä:The authors analyze the tradeoff between monetary and nonmonetary incentives in a principal-agent framework where the principal chooses job-challenge (job-design) to provide non-monetary incentives. The authors capture the construct of job-challenge as a motivator based on Atkinson (1958). The authors show that there are three effects of job-challenge when they consider information asymmetries. These effects are the substitution effect, the risk effect and the informativeness effect.
