| Tiivistelmä: | In modern concepts of physical distribution the joint opti- mization of logistics processes among the various channel elements very often is emphasized. The focus in this area of management science, dealing with the optimization on inven- tory management, is on the comparison of independent optimi- zation strategies with those of joint economic-lot-sizing. Many of these approaches are characterized by the fact that they aim at distribution systems, where buyers are served by manufacturers directly. In real life situations however, different forms of multi-echelon distribution systems are typical. This article examines how joint economic-lot-sizing affects the total costs of inventory management, if an intermediary is established between the manufacturer and the purchaser. |
